John L. Poray, CAE
John L. Poray, CAE has served as executive director of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) since October 1, 1992. With 5,000 members in the US and 20 other countries, and 115 chapters in the U.S and Hong Kong, the SBE is the association for broadcast and multimedia technology professionals. Poray is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the SBE and providing guidance and support to the SBE Board of Directors.
Poray's professional background and education is in the management of non-profit, membership based organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Youth Agency Administration from Salem College (now Salem University) in Salem, West Virginia and is a graduate of the Non-profit Leadership Alliance (formerly American Humanics) co-curricular program while at Salem College. The NLA prepares college students for careers with youth and other non-profit organizations. He has held the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives since 1989.
Poray has previously served in management positions with Kiwanis International, the Apartment Association of Indiana, the Columbus (Ohio) Apartment Association and the Central Ohio Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was elected a Fellow of the SBE in 2003. He is a member of the Americian Society of Association Executives and the Indiana Society of Associaton Executives. He is a past president of the Indiana Society of Association Executives.
